A very rare 1950's navy blue knitted cardigan by Balenciaga. The jacket has a deep v-neckline and fastens up the front from the waist to the hem with four blue plastic buttons and a press-stud. The jacket has elbow length sleeves and is trimmed with black crochet around the neck and down the front. This jacket is in excellent condition with a small hole on the back of the right shoulder.

Cristóbal Balenciaga opened his first boutique in 1918 in Spain. The Spanish Civil War forced him to move to Paris and there he opened his new design house and became one of the most revolutionary designers of the 20th Century. His innovations included the cocoon coat and balloon dress amongst many others throughout the 1960's.
This amazing Balenciaga knit is the perfect piece for layering up over other knits or under gilets and shearling jackets. It looks best when worn open with skinny trousers and heeled boots for a sleek but chic day look.
